The labyrinth of exhibition spaces between, through, and around buildings at the art museum MASS MoCA presented challenging difficulties for patrons to navigate the expansive complex. Additionally, limitations of available printed design real estate made making a cohesive printed map a near impossibility. The museum needed a simple design to solve a complicated wayfinding problem.
An isometric map was created to help people orient between levels and buildings, as well as identify how elevators, stairs, and corridors lead to different exhibition spaces. Icons and keys provided easy visual references in a way that reduced clutter within the available printed space.
